We are pleased to offer PEANUTS fans this unique piece of animation art entitled: "Cowabunga", which celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the feature film “Snoopy Come Home!”.
Before Snoopy is hit with the thundering NO DOGS ALLOWED!, he catches a wave, masters the barrel, hits the pocket before he is bowled over by the wave. Snoopy, unfazed, comes up floating on the beach ball, only happens in this dog's life! This piece is the last in the Peanuts Lexicon Series, and is a hand-inked and painted limited edition cel set-up based on the opening sequence in this full featured film.
The cel is accompanied by a signed storyboard giclee print designed and completed under the direction of animator/director, Larry Leichliter, from the studio of Bill Melendez Productions.
“I love this scene! In fact, when I was dating my wife, I knew she loved Snoopy and the beach. So, I made a cel for her of Snoopy surfing! And it’s hung in her office ever since. It really shows how certain words can appear on screen as part of the action,” explains Larry. “It’s another way the art we create can tip our hat to Mr. Schulz and his genius, as we did back when I was animating. Whenever we could, we would insert a word/phrase as it would have appeared in his strip.” Cowabunga first appeared in the strip in 1965. The accompanying storyboard print is how the scene actually played out in the original film.
Each piece is numbered in a small edition size of 50 pieces and bears the studio seal, accompanied by a studio certificate of authenticity.
