Comic Mint, is pleased to offer Scooby fans this RARE hand painted limited edition animation cel entitled "Scooby Doo Model Sheet" (1997), signed by Bill Hanna & Joe Barbera.
On September 13th, 1969, world-renowned animation pioneers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera introduced what would become the longest-running cartoon in TV history: Scooby-Doo, Coupling the Great Dane with "The Gang" from Mystery Inc.. Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Freddy, the Scooby-Doo cartoons (19 separate shows spanning 22 years) heralded a new era in children's programming, being the first cartoon to incorporate an action-adventure format with "humans" in supporting roles (with a remarkably low level of violence!).
The art for this limited edition was created at the Hanna Barbera studio in Hollywood, beginning with a drawing from Bob Singer, original layout artist on "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!". A master inking by Helene Hunter was silkscreened onto an acetate sheet (or "cel"). Each cel was then expertly hand-painted on the reverse side. The background drawings by Bob Singer were adapted from original studio model sheets, and special attention was paid in the printing in order to capture the delicate line quality. A model sheet, from which this background was adapted, is a collection of drawings of a specific character used to show that character's varying attitudes and characteristics. Each piece has been hand-signed by Bill Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
This SOLD-OUT edition was limited to only 500 pieces (worldwide), and is very difficult to find. The artwork measures a large 16.5" x 13.5" inches and has the official Hanna-Barbera Studio seal in the lower corner.
